Just got back from seeing an early screening of Project X, the “found footage” movie about the greatest high school party ever thrown. Greatest party, indeed.
First off, I just gotta say that this movie was pretty awesome. There were quite a few moments where the entire theater roared with laughter. A large majority of the movie was shot like a montage with just random scenes of the main characters dealing with the clusterfuck that the party became. I thought it was really well done, though. The amateur footage angle made me feel like I was really in the party. There were quite a few scenes with the dog, Milo, which were absolutely hilarious. It was a great mix of partying and story, but the story itself was a bit lacking…
The problems I had with the movie are a bit… common. The story was predictable, the characters seemed to come straight from other high school movies, and some of it was unbelievable. For instance, the main character, Thomas, ends up getting with the girl you think he will… Thomas’s buddy, Costa, is almost exactly like Jonah Hill’s character in Superbad.
Overall, I’d say that it’s worth seeing… Maybe not the crazy ticket prices people are paying now, but if you can see it for cheaper I’d say go for it.
